Southern Golf Outing Benefits Football Team

 

SALINEVILLE-The Southern Local Jr./Sr. High School Touchdown Club is heading to the links to help raise funds for the football team.

 

The organization is hosting the annual Southern Local Football Golf Outing on July 25 at Carroll Meadows in Carrollton. Check-in time begins at 6:30 a.m. and the four-man golf scramble tees off at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start. Kelly Malone, who is co-organizing the event with husband James, said cash prizes will be available and there is no limit on the number of teams.

 

Registration is $300 per foursome or $75 per golfer and the event will include 18 holes with a cart, lunch, raffle items and a steak dinner. Prizes will be given to the first-place team as well as $20 team skins, longest drive, longest putt, closest to the hole and more. Meanwhile, sponsorships are also being sought and begin at $50.

 

Malone said the event was long held by the Southern Local Football Boosters while the Touchdown Club has hosted it for about four years, but no outing occurred last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Some changes have been made this time including the venue and the meal.

 

“It used to be held at Beaver Meadows in East Liverpool and we’d always had a catered meal, but now it’s at Carroll Meadows and there will be a steak dinner at their restaurant,” she continued. “We’ve normally had 18 teams and it has raised about $4,000 in the past for the football team.”

 

Proceeds from the last event helped acquire an endzone camera for the team.
